10 Rare and Expensive Playstation 1 Games

The original Playstation system was one of the best selling consoles of all time but there are many games for the system that are hard to find.  Some of these PS1 games are extremely rare and expensive.  Below is a list of the rarest and most expensive Playstation 1 games and why they are so expensive.

1. Suikoden II - $250
Critically acclaimed and rated one of the best RPG's on the system.  Suikoden 2 sold poorly when initially released though so there are not many copies available relative to the demand.  The high demand and low supply make this the most expensive game on the PS1.

2. Tactics Ogre - $150
Originally released in Japan on the Super Famicom, Tactics Ogre is considered a "masterpiece" according to RPGamer.  The publisher Atlus never printed many copies and the few that were made are now in high demand.

3. Valkyrie Profile - $130
An action RPG, Valkyrie Profile is a hard to find on the Playstation 1.  It has been rereleased on the PSP which helped spark interest in the original game and increase the resale prices.

4. Revelations Persona - $90
Persona has a cult like following in the RPG world.  It does not have a huge fan base, but those fans are diehards and pay top dollar for original copies.  The game has since been reprinted by Atlus which has lowered the resale prices recently but it is still one of the most expensive games for the PS1.

5. Final Fantasy VII - $80
The best selling and most popular game on the Playstation, Final Fantasy VII is not rare at all but very expensive still.  The game sold 9.8 million copies but due to overwhelming demand the game still sells for around $80.  The black label version sells for even more.

6. Dance Dance Revolution Disney Mix - $80
Konami and Disney teamed up to release a DDR game featuring Disney characters and songs.  Disney collectible fans and Dance Dance Revolution fanatics both help boost the price for this game.

7. Lunar Silver Star Story - $65
The game is seen as a transition point for the RPG genre.  It featured video cutscenes, voice acting when these were both rare in video games.  The game was not produced in large quanities but RPG fans love this game because it is fun and historic.

8. Intelligent Qube - $60
IQ is a puzzle game and is very rare.  It is one of the harder to find PS1 games but not as popular as some of the titles appearing earlier in this list which are easier to find.  The puzzles in the game are addicting so many owners of the game won't sell it.

9. Team Buddies - $60
The hardest title to find on this list, Team Buddies is a mix of RPG, shooter, and party game all wrapped into one.  The game can be found online but is near impossible to spot in the wild.

10. Ogre Battle Limited Edition  $55
A rerelease of the Super Nintendo Ogre Battle game.  The PS1 game originally came with a memory card and map so copies with both these items sell for a premium.  The game was only produced in limited quantities and Atlus never did a second printing.

Check your closets and game collections to see if you have any of these Playstation 1 rarities.  You might be holding a gam in your collection as you read this.

The Future of the Dollar

The Future of the Dollar

$27.94

For half a century, the United States has garnered substantial political and economic benefits as a result of the dollar's de facto role as a global currency. In recent years, however, the dollar's preponderant position in world markets has come under challenge. The dollar has been more volatile than ever against foreign currencies, and various nations have switched to non-dollar instruments in their transactions. China and the Arab Gulf states continue to hold massive amounts of U.S. government obligations, in effect subsidizing U.S. current account deficits, and those holdings are a point of potential vulnerability for American policy. What is the future of the U.S. dollar as an international currency? Will predictions of its demise end up just as inaccurate as those that have accompanied major international financial crises since the early 1970s? Analysts disagree, often profoundly, in their answers to these questions. In The Future of the Dollar, leading scholars of dollar's international role bring multidisciplinary perspectives and a range of contrasting predictions to the question of the dollar's future. This timely book provides readers with a clear sense of why such disagreements exist and it outlines a variety of future scenarios and the possible political implications for the United States and the world. Contributors: David Calleo, The Johns Hopkins University; Benjamin Cohen, University of California, Santa Barbara; Marcello de Cecco, Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, Italy; Eric Helleiner, University of Waterloo; Harold James, Princeton University and European University Institute; Jonathan Kirshner, Cornell University; Ronald I. McKinnon, Stanford University; Herman Schwartz, University of Virginia

On a festive seafaring expedition, the tightly knit British community confronts disaster in the shape of an earthquake and ensuing tidal wave. Swept overboard, Charlotte, John Dollar, and eight young girls who are Charlotte's pupils awake on a remote island beach. As they struggle to stay alive, their dependence on John overwhelms him, and an atmosphere of menace and doom builds, culminating in shocking and riveting scenes of both death and survival.

The Go-Around Dollar

The Go-Around Dollar

How long the average dollar stays in circulation? In this fascinating and informative book, Barbara Johnston Adams weaves together a fictional narrative about the travels of a single dollar with facts and anecdotes that are sure to delight young readers.

Slow Dollar

Slow Dollar

$3.95

For Judge Knott, the case before her seems to be an ordinary misdemeanor -- except that the personal property that's been destroyed is an inflatable carnival ride. When the carnival comes to her own town a few weeks later, Deborah soon discovers there's nothing ordinary about this rag-tag collection of rides and games. Why does the ride owner's charm bracelet awaken half-forgotten memories? And what is her connection to Deborah's own family? When one of the concessionaires is found dead, his mouth stuffed with quarters from his game of chance, Deborah soon learns that he was also chancing a little blackmail on the side -- blackmail that may threaten one of her brothers. In carnie lingo, "A fast dime is better than a slow dollar." Torn between judicial ethics and family love, Deborah must decide who gets which before more lives are ruined and the carnival moves on.

Desegregating the Dollar

Desegregating the Dollar

$10.91

Capitalism and slavery stand as the two economic phenomena that have most clearly defined the United States. Yet, despite African Americans' nearly $500 billion annual spending power, surprisingly little attention has been devoted to the ways U.S. businesses have courted black dollars in post-slavery America. Robert E. Weems, Jr., presents the first fully integrated history of black consumerism over the course of the last century. The World War I era Great Migration of African Americans from the rural South to northern and southern cities stimulated initial corporate interest in blacks as consumers. A generation later, as black urbanization intensified during World War II and its aftermath, the notion of a distinct, profitable African American consumer market gained greater currency. Moreover, black socioeconomic gains resulting from the Civil Rights movement which itself featured such consumer justice protests as the Montgomery Bus Boycott, further enhanced the status and influence of African American shoppers. Unwilling to settle for facile answers, Weems explores the role of black entrepreneurs who promoted the importance of the African American consumer market to U.S. corporations. Their actions, ironically, set the stage for the ongoing destruction of black-owned business. While the extent of educational, employment, and residential desegregation remains debatable, African American consumer dollars have, by any standard, been fully incorporated into the U.S. economy. Desegregating the Dollar takes us through the "blaxploitation" film industry, the vast market for black personal care products, and the insidious exploitation of black urban misery by liquor and cigarette advertisers. Robert E. Weems, Jr., has given us the definitive account of the complicated relationship between African Americans, capitalism, and consumerism.
